Install Ceiling Fan in using a smaller electrical box

Hi,

I have a ceiling fan that has a standard fixture bracket with a 4" width between the hanging holes. The box I have is only 3" wide. The box is very secure and I dont really want to change it. Is there an easy way to connect the larger bracket to the small electrical box?
